Industrial Applications of Stud Welding Machines

Stud Welding is one of the most preferred types of welding due to its benefits over the other welding options. Portable machines & equipment, accessibility and powerful results are a few reasons why the demand for this process is always high.

Stud Welding is widely categorised into two types- Capacitor Discharge (CD) Welding & Drawn Arc (DA) Welding. Choosing from the two primary types of stud welding entirely depends on the base metal’s thickness, stud diameter, appearance and quality requirements of the weld. Generally, the Capacitor Discharge method is used for thinner material, and the Drawn Arc method is used for heavy parent material.

Applications of Capacitor Discharge Stud Welding Machines

Capacitor-Discharge (CD) Stud Welding is used where aesthetics are of utmost importance. It leaves no marks on the backside after welding. Indeed, this welding is perfect for flawless welding of studs to thin gauge materials with flat surfaces. CD Welding is used for stud diameter from M3 to M8 for welding mild steel, stainless steel, brass and aluminium studs.

Standard Applications

CD Stud Welding is used in the manufacturing of control panels, elevator control panels, stainless steel cookware, stainless steel kitchenware, insulation fixing, electrostatic precipitators, electrical control panels, and more.

Applications of Drawn Arc Stud Welding Machines

Drawn Arc or DA Stud Welding is used where high strength is required in welding. Also, it is used in processes where bigger diameters of studs are welded on thick parent material. This type of stud welding can weld studs of diameters up to 25mm. Basically, studs are welded using either shielding gas or ceramic ferrule in this process. It does not require any additional material. Another advantage, non-skilled workers can also work on the machine. It also eliminates different operations such as riveting, drilling, etc. At Artech, we manufacture Drawn Arc Stud Welding Machines from 3mm diameter to 25 mm diameter.

Standard Applications

Drawn Arc Welding is used for fluidised bed coils stud welding in boilers, transformer tank stud welding, shear connector welding, heavy fabrication, insulation in power plants, insulation in shipbuilding, automobile, heat exchangers, and more. In the automobile industry, short cycle conical studs are used. They are welded with the DA process even though their diameter is 5mm or 6mm. Artech has been teaming up with the leading automotive manufacturers to enhance the cost-effectiveness and production quality of various processes in the automobile industries.

Overall, Stud Welding enables manufacturers from different industries to create and innovate product aesthetics in an easy and cost-effective manner.
